Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss## Target 15.1/u></b># By 2020, ensure the c onservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements##  Indicator 15.1.1#   Forest area as a proportion of total land area##  Text answer#  There are no forests in Faroe Islands, but there are about 25 larger and smaller plantations covering less than 0.1% of the total land area.##  According to the FAO, forest is define d as: “land spanning more than 0.5 hectares with trees higher than 5 meters and a canopy cover of more than 10 percent, or trees able to reach these thresholds in situ. It does not include land that is predominantly under agricultural or urban land us e”.
